Our Volunteer Department provides fire services within the district and provides mutual aid to nearby departments in need. Steven Krausmann is the Fire Department Chief.
The Cazadero Volunteer Fire Department provides around-the-clock fire protection for the community, responding to structure and wildland fires, smoke reports, vehicle incidents, hazardous-condition calls, and other life-safety emergencies. Staffed by trained volunteer firefighters operating engines, a brush unit, and a water tender at each end of the District, the department emphasizes rapid response, safe fireground operations, and coordinated tactics with neighboring agencies through mutual aid. Crews conduct regular drills, maintain equipment and water supply resources, and perform pre-incident planning to improve coverage in Cazadero’s steep, forested terrain. Public outreach—including home safety checks and defensible-space education—complements frontline response, helping reduce ignition risks while ensuring residents are prepared when seconds matter.
