Cazadero GMRS

The Cazadero GMRS Radio Network is a community-run emergency communications system using GMRS walkie-talkie radios and a series of local repeaters to keep neighbors connected when phones, internet, or power are down—during wildfires, major storms, or PSPS events. Repeaters positioned around the canyon and ridge tops extend coverage across the Cazadero area, with some reaching as far as Sebastopol and Fort Ross.

Residents can join by picking up an inexpensive, pre-programmed GMRS radio (available locally), then tuning in to the weekly Wednesday 6:30 pm check-in “net.” A GMRS license is required for non-emergency use, but it’s a simple, low-cost application ($35 for ten years). For help getting started or to be added to the neighborhood contact roster, email the group; the effort is supported by local clubs, the county, and community donations.
